Medical

The APNMI medical program coordinates volunteer medical teams offering specialized treatment in such areas as: Orthopedics, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Audiology, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, etc. These services are made available to members of the association and persons of limited means from the nine municipalities (counties) located around the Nuevo Casas Grandes area.

Association members are treated without charge; other patients are assessed a minimal fee, based on ability to pay. Example: an audiology evaluation is $50.00 (pesos) the equivalent of $5.00 U.S. and used/reconditioned hearing aids are provided at a cost of approximately $50.00 U.S. These fees are adjusted or waived based on the patient’s financial condition and are charged to help cover the cost of supplies and materials used.

Patients are sent to the association by local doctors, government agencies, and other patients. The person’s information is recorded and their name is put on the appropriate waiting list until that specific clinic is scheduled, at which time they are contacted and given an appointment.

Patients that require simple surgical procedures are treated in the APNMI medical clinic; more complicated surgeries are performed in a hospital. The patients pay a minimal charge for the use of the local hospital for procedures that include cleft lip and palate reconstruction. APNMI’s surgical suite makes it possible for surgeons to provide services without cost for more patients. The APNMI operating room is equipped with basic surgical instruments, an anesthesia machine, an ophthalmic microscope, and other equipment necessary for same-day surgeries.
